Social Care

Social Care

As environmental and social structures change, TCFHC continues to pay close attention to the effects and opportunities arising from an aged society through its 4 major public welfare strategies of “Joyful Learning, Healthy Living, Tranquil Community, and Nursing and Care”. The Group actively uses the core competencies of finance to launch a number of innovative products to solve social and environmental problems. At the same time, we also continue to integrate Group resources to give back to society and expand social influence.

In addition, TCFHC takes “people” as the starting point and encourages colleagues to participate in public welfare activities, thereby cultivating social citizenship awareness. The “Implementation Points of Volunteer Service of TCFHC” were formulated. The Chair leads the team as the captain of volunteers, establishes a top-down corporate culture of public welfare, and passes on the feedback spirit of “Taking from Society and Using in Society” to every employee. BNP TCB Life has also planned a good deeds leave system and launched a “Public Welfare Passport” to support employees in participating in public welfare activities.

TCFHC adopts the London Benchmarking Group (LBG) Business for Social Impact Framework (B4SI), based on “cash investment”, “time investment”, “non-monetary investment”, and “recurring expense management investment” to present various data and classify the impact into 3 donation categories, including “charitable donations”, “community investments”, and “business donations”. The total investment in the 4 major public welfare strategies in 2024 was NT$220.50 million.

TCFHC understands the importance of education and talent development for the sustainable development of corporations and society. Hence, for years, TCFHC has been working closely with the community, schools, and other institutions in order to support education and academic research. TCFHC strives to provide every child with equal educational and social resources, achieve financial inclusion, and bring financial knowledge and the concept of financial management to different groups in society.

Rewarding Learning

Offer scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to finish school.

As an incentive for undergraduate, graduate, and PhD students to conduct research in economics and finance, TCB started a scholarship in 1954, and the scholarship has been helping schools develop talent. Since 1997, for educational institutions above high school level that deposit operating funds with the bank or request the bank to collect tuition fees, and for local governments that contract the bank to collect various types of fees or distribute compensation, TCB has provided scholarships to current students with excellent performance or to children of faculty or staff at the related schools.

Cultivating Financial Literacy

TCB to organize the “Financial Literacy Campaign for the Campus and Community” and financial planning camps to help the public gain a wider range of financial knowledge and learn the right approach to financial planning.

TCB held the campaign “Communicating Financial Knowledge to Campuses and Communities”. Internal professional lecturers traveled to various places to deliver financial knowledge, covering elementary schools, junior high schools, senior high/vocational high schools, colleges and universities, communities, senior citizens, people with disabilities, national army, correctional institutions, and social welfare groups. In 2024, a total of 39 sessions were held, attended by about 1,845 people. The courses not only covered wealth management and financial practices, but also conveyed correct concepts regarding anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism. This helped the public and young people with limited financial professional literacy and maximized the efficacy of financial education, receiving the “Financial Education Contribution Award – Best Commitment Award” from the Financial Supervisory Commission. In addition, to help microbusinesses and SMEs enhance their business management and financial competitiveness, TCB partnered with the Taiwan Small & Medium Enterprise Counseling Foundation (Taiwan SMECF) and held workshops where industrial and economic experts were invited to express their views on “2024 Challenges and Prospects for Economic Developments”. Meanwhile, government agencies, experts and scholars, as well as business owners were invited to serve as panelists. Approximately 61 participants attended, with the aim of providing business solutions for small and micro-sized enterprises to explore new opportunities and face the challenges of the carbon tariff era.

TCB organized 316 financial planning seminars in 2024, with a total of 5,935 participants, and held 52 trust information sessions at social groups, medical institutions, schools, and care facilities to educate the public on trust services. In addition, a children’s financial literacy camp was co-hosted in collaboration with Eastspring Investments, using an edutainment approach to help children understand the value of money, covering income, saving, spending, and donating, through board games, thereby fostering financial education from an early age.

Minority Empowerment

Donate to education-themed charities to support the disadvantaged in learning.

To support education in rural areas, bridge the urban-rural gap, and create an equal and high-quality learning environment, TCS partnered with Teach for Taiwan in 2024 to launch the public welfare marketing campaign “E-Campaign with You to Protect the Earth”. Joining hands to protect the Earth, for each customer who opted to receive account statements, TCS donated NT$5 to the foundation during the campaign. A total of NT$125,015 was donated in 2024.

The development of teenagers from high-risk families is another key issue that TCS continuously follows. In 2024, TCS donated to the Bornanew Youth Caring Association and Yunlin Prison of the Ministry of Justice, providing assistance to juvenile offenders to help them reintegrate into their families and schools, as well as subsidizing scholarships for children of inmates. The goal was to encourage them to face the future bravely and to urge society to embrace families of inmates without discrimination. A total of NT$200,000 was donated in 2024.

Industry-Academia Collaboration

Provide internships for current students to develop financial independence and social skills.

In 2011, TCB started sponsoring the “Economically Independent Youth Part-time Employment Program” initiated by the Youth Development Administration of the Ministry of Education, providing over 500 internship opportunities to date. TCB helps current students from financially disadvantaged families complete internships in a secure environment, enabling them to gain work experience and learn to be financially independent at the same time. In 2018, TCS implemented the “Guidelines for Hiring Interns”. The guidelines give priority to current university students when the company needs to fill short-term positions. More than 11 have been hired up to date, and additional openings are being offered on an ongoing basis.

Senior Education

Hold “TCB Lectures” to provide senior product services and information, help the public start planning for retirement early, and make arrangements for the later years of their lives.

With the goal of becoming “the number one brand of LOHAS and elder care”, the TCFHC Group continues to offer a full range of products and services to help the public plan for life after retirement and make arrangements for their later years in advance. In 2024, 3 “TCB Lectures – Happy Living and Secure Caring Master Class” were held, with 1,074 participants discussing plans for their 2nd lives. In the same year, 2 “Orange Generation: Living a Happy and Carefree Life” elderly care and brain-teasing friendly experience events were held, with 200 participants, to help the public understand issues related to personal physiology, psychology, social relationships, and asset security in an aging society.

TCFHC has been providing sponsorships in the sports industry for years and has discovered and nurtured a myriad of rising young sports stars. Since 1947, TCFHC has assembled a table tennis team (in 1947), a baseball team (in 1949), and a badminton team (in 1992), paying more than NT$100 million every year in support of these teams. The funds are spent on the development and training of these teams, provision of well-maintained training facilities, accommodation and other benefits, and financial sponsorship for athletes to attend various domestic and international games and tournaments, all of which are essential to enable Taiwan to compete on the global stage. Meanwhile, TCFHC combines sports with charity, promotion, and school sports sponsorships. In 2024, TCFHC received its 16 th consecutive “Sports Activist Award” from the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education.

Nurturing Sports Talents

Training Taiwan’s sports stars and seeking international exposure through sports.

Sports is an important soft power that enables Taiwan to connect with the world. Sports stars of TCFHC have delivered remarkable performances internationally in recent years. They include world-class players Tzu-Ying Tai and Tien-Chen Chou, and top table tennis players including I-Ching Cheng, Yun-Ju Lin, Chih-Yuan Chuang, and Chien-An Chen. There are also baseball stars Sheng-Feng Wu, Jia-Yo Lin, and Han Lin. All of them are excellent athletes in whom TCB has invested significant resources. In 2024, the TCB team sent players to support 45 sports events. TCB players performed outstandingly in various domestic and international competitions, winning multiple championships and runner-up titles, achieving excellent results, and showcasing Taiwan’s capabilities to the world.

In addition to ensuring support for active sports stars, TCB tries to recruit athletes with great potential from national games or schools in cooperative programs and provide them with health allowances and competition bonuses in order to ease their financial burden. Outstanding performance is rewarded with an offer to become a full-time player on the team, and they can continue working at TCB after retiring from the team.

Promoting Sports Events

Holding corporate sports events and educational camps to promote sports in Taiwan.

In addition to cultivating sports talents and enhancing Taiwan’s international sports competitiveness, TCB also promotes sports culture, encourages employees to pay attention to their physical and mental health and develop sports habits, and organizes various sports events to promote sports culture among the public.

TCB has long invited corporate clients and their employees to participate in the TCB Badminton Cup, table tennis, and slow-pitch softball games. The games provide opportunities for participants to meet others with the same interests and to relieve stress from work. The ultimate goal is to promote Taiwan’s sports culture.

i-Health for the Old and Young

Sponsoring healthcare foundations focused on disease or cancer prevention to fund free clinics and medical supplies.

TCS continuously donates to the Mennonite Social Welfare Foundation and actively supports care services for elderly people and people with disabilities in Hualien and Taitung. Given the lack of medical resources in that area, TCS has donated to the South-Link Medical Foundation to improve medic services for economically disadvantaged people in rural areas and increase emergency financial aid grants. TCS has also entered cultural and health stations and care centers for elderly people in various villages, providing health education and free physiological monitoring, in the hope of reducing inequality in medical care in rural areas and ensuring that residents in rural areas can receive comprehensive medical services and care. In addition, TCS has also participated in the “Care for Our Children” family care charity fair hosted by the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families for 4 consecutive years. In 2024, the company sponsored a charity booth and mobilized volunteers to support the Family Helper Center’s sale of locally produced agricultural goods, working together to protect the well-being of disadvantaged families and children.

Blood Drives

Organizing blood drives to help address the blood shortages.

To assist the government in alleviating the blood shortage problem, CAM and TCS held 1 charity blood donation event each in the vicinity of 228 Park and Hsinchu Big City Department Store Plaza in 2024, collecting a total of 204 bags of blood and calling on colleagues to roll up their sleeves and donate blood.

The modern world is constantly changing, and more and more of the disadvantaged are falling through the cracks or being forgotten. Therefore, the Group continues to provide donations of supplies or funds to improve the quality of life for the disadvantaged and bring more learning resources to children and the disabled in rural areas. In addition, TCFHC Group purchases local produce to contribute to local agricultural development and the improvement of farmers’ lives. TCFHC cares for the disadvantaged and fulfills its corporate social responsibility in the process.

No Poverty

Organize fundraisers to help disadvantaged groups and families in need.

TCFHC is committed to giving back to society and continues to uphold the Group’s charity policy. In 2024, TCFHC organized 97 fundraising events for disadvantaged groups and families in need, and donated more than NT$15.42 million. The more significant of these events are the following:

Zero Hunger

Participate in the “TAIFEX Food Bank” food drive and donate supplies.

TCFHC has been helping to end hunger in the community for years. TCFHC has participated in the “TAIFEX Food Bank” for 10 consecutive years since 2015. The campaign donates goods to impoverished or crisis-struck families or marginalized households not eligible for welfare benefits. TCS continuously orders coffee beans from the Future Cafe, established by the Bornanew Youth Caring Association, and holiday gift boxes from other charity organizations, with a total annual purchase amount of NT$527,400 to support public welfare through action and encourage disadvantaged groups to be able to support themselves.

Farming for Love

Purchase products from local farmers’ associations to help mitigate overproduction problems.

TCFHC worked hard to promote local agricultural products and took action to support the industry. It purchased fresh onions, and pomelos from local farmers’ associations and shared them with customers and employees, as well as donated them to long-supported charitable organizations to help farmers mitigate overproduction problems.

Supporting Charities and Community Watch

Donate to charitable groups or in response to major disasters, contributing to the restoration of social stability.

TCFHC not only extends its core competencies and influence as a financial institution to develop a wide range of financial products and services for consumers, but also fulfills the spirit of “Taking from Society and Using in Society”. TCFHC combines resources from the Group and supports charities and emergency relief efforts on an ongoing basis.

Volunteer Activities

Gather the power of corporate volunteers to pass down the positive spirit of society.

In order to fulfill its corporate social responsibilities, the Group held 5 volunteer activities as part of its commitment to giving back to society, improving the environment, and showing care and contribution to the public. The more representative activities are as follows:

TCFHC Donation Drive

In 2024, TCB organized the “TCFHC Donation Drive”. On the day of the event, 10 volunteers from the Taipei Second District Regional Center and Songshan Branch visited the Anping Community Development Association in Songshan District, Taipei City, to make donations. TCB staff also held a seminar to provide financial knowledge, wealth management tips, fraud prevention strategies, and promote financial products. The aim was to help senior citizens make smart wealth management decisions, spend wisely, and understand retirement risk management. By sharing wealth management fraud cases, the seminar aimed to raise awareness among seniors about post-retirement financial risks, helping them avoid unnecessary investment losses and the misuse of their funds by others, so they can enjoy a healthy and worry-free retirement.

Love Festival

For 3 consecutive years, TCS has supported the “Love Festival” organized by the Little Sapling. Through the event’s “Frameless Classroom” exhibition area, Dr. Tsung-Hsien Li from the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium was invited to give a lecture on marine conservation and protection knowledge, focusing on sea turtle rescue, to approximately 300 disadvantaged children from remote elementary schools as well as the Greater Taipei and Nangang areas. Dr. Li also personally provided adorable animal toys, such as baby leatherback turtles, as prizes for children who answered questions, which was met with an enthusiastic response.

TCS also took the opportunity to arrange a financial fraud prevention course to promote financial literacy among children in rural areas. The course covered various anti-fraud knowledge such as avoiding hot investment tips, not disclosing personal information to strangers, and not recklessly purchasing game points. 12 card tickets of different shapes were provided as prizes for a quiz on financial fraud prevention. The event also encouraged participants to remind their families not to trust investment channels of unknown origin to prevent financial losses for themselves and their loved ones. An additional 170 Monstera deliciosa and Macodes petola-shaped iPASS cards were provided as small gifts to participating children from remote areas, helping them get acquainted with these 2 tropical rainforest native plants.

Sponsoring Arts and Supporting Cultural Development

Support the development of Taiwan’s cultural industries and sponsor various arts and cultural activities.

TCB sponsored a range of arts and cultural events, including the “2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Tainan” organized by the Tainan City Government, the “WE ARE: Formosa New Year’s Eve Concert” music program by the General Association of Chinese Culture, the 2024 Projection Mapping Show Featuring the Presidential Office Building, the Power of Freedom Presidential Office Concert, the Taiwan WAY Arts and Cultural Tea Gathering, the 2024 Eslite Chamber Music Festival series organized by the Eslite Foundation for Culture and the Arts, the 2024 National Day Fireworks event by the Yunlin County Government, the Taipei City Government’s National Day Evening Gala, and initiatives by the Taipei City Kuanyin Line Psychological and Social Care Association and the Mr. Yuan-Tung Hsu and Mrs. Hsu Memorial Cultural and Educational Foundation. By sponsoring arts and cultural events, we provide a platform for artists to fully express their creativity and help nurture Taiwan’s cultural and creative industries.

With the trends of an aging population and declining birthrate, long-term care has become an increasingly important issue. However, most elderly individuals with limited self-care ability or persons with physical and mental disabilities are still cared for by family members. This places a significant physical and emotional burden on family caregivers, even leading to challenges in their work, finances, and social life, while they are frequently overlooked by society. Therefore, since 2013, BNP TCB Life and the Taiwan Association of Family Caregivers (TAFC) have been working together to introduce various measures and activities that support and care for family caregivers.
